Superfreakonomics – Steven Levitt e Stephen Dubner

Eu gosto muito do primeiro livro, o Freakonomics, e gostei muito desse também. Ele mostra umas correlações nada óbvias entre coisas que você não suspeita que estão relacionadas, então sempre aprendo um monte de coisas. Sigo o podcast de mesmo nome e sugiro que vocês também ouçam.

Um trechinho bem curtinho mas que explica MUITA coisa:

“A pair of researchers named Kristen Schilt and Matthew Wiswall wanted to systematically examine what happens to the salaries of people who switched gender as adults. It is not quite the experiment we proposed above—after all, the set of folks who switch gender aren’t exactly a random sample, nor are they the typical woman or man before or after—but still, the results are intriguing. Schilt and Wiswall found that women who become men earn slightly more money after their gender transitions, while men who become women make, on average, nearly one-third less than their previous wage.”

Esse foi outra releitura, pra poder gravar esse Perdidos na Estante aqui (que por sinal ficou ótimo, if I say so myself).

Vou deixar um trecho bem curto e aparentemente insignificante, mas vale a pena ler, talvez ver o filme e depois ouvir o podcast, onde a gente comentou tudo muito bem comentado.

“Hollowness: that I understand. I’m starting to believe that there isn’t anything you can do to fix it. That’s what I’ve taken from therapy sessions: the holes in your life are permanent. You have to grow around them, like tree roots around concrete; you mould yourself through the gaps. All these things I know, but I don’t say them out loud, not now.”
